A drawn war diary from Ukraine
"My name is Olga Grebennik. I am a mother, wife, daughter, artist, writer. I am a person whose life was shattered. I have two children: Fedor, nine years old, and four-year-old Vera, a husband, my mother, and a dog and a cat. Our life before the war was like a small garden, where every flower had its own place and its own flowering time. Love nourished this garden and it grew and blossomed every day.
I remember well that evening on the eve of the war. The children were asleep and my husband and I were talking, we had thousands of plans. We fell asleep full and happy. At five in the morning we woke up. Explosions could be heard from all sides ..."
So begins the diary from Kharkov, which quickly turns from a war diary into a diary of an escape. In her notebook, Olga Grebennik describes and sketches her experiences with a simple pencil, recording her inner world while the outside world is being bombed by planes. The notebook becomes the only support.
An impressive contemporary testimony of the invasion of Ukraine.
