This medium-duty truck in the 5-ton category represents the current generation of logistics vehicles used by the U.S. military. It was put into service in the early 1980s. The M-923 features an extremely robust structure and excellent off-road capabilities necessary to ensure the flow of supplies to frontline combat units. Many versions were built based on this chassis: tow trucks, fuel trucks, and mobile maintenance and communication vehicles. The A-1 version is characterized by large off-road tires, which earned it the nickname "Big Foot." During its operational use, particularly in recent military campaigns in Iraq and Afghanistan, the "Big Foot" was often modified with additional "homemade" protective measures to reduce damage from small arms fire. However, the personalization of the vehicles by crews "in the field" was made possible thanks to the excellent platform that the M-923 trucks provide.
