Italeri JU 87 B-2/R-2 "PICCHIATELLO"

The stand model is a replica of the Ju 87 B-2/R-2 Stuka "Picchiatello." The dive bomber Ju 87 is one of the most famous aircraft of World War II. This distinctive "inverted gull wing" aircraft became famous at the beginning of the war and can be regarded as a symbol of "Blitzkrieg" alongside the Wehrmacht tank division.

Before the war, the Italian Regia Aeronautica requested a specific supply of one hundred "Stukas" from their German allies to equip their ground attack and bombing squadrons. The first Ju 87B units arrived in the summer of 1940, equipping the 96º Gruppo Bombardamento a Tuffo.

The Ju 87, either in the B2 version or the Extended Range R2 version, equipped other "Gruppi di Volo" for a total of 150 aircraft. The Italian "Stuka," nicknamed "Picchiatello," was used by the Regia Aeronautica over Malta, in North Africa, in the Balkans, and in the Mediterranean theater.
