The Seven Years' War took place between 1756 and 1763, involving all the military forces of Europe at the time. Many historians regard it as the first world war, as the fighting also occurred in the colonies occupied by Europeans. In North America, the war, also known as the French and Indian War, saw the royal troops of France, along with many allied Indian tribes, clash with the British and American forces of the Thirteen Colonies. Both armies immediately advanced with the aim of capturing and destroying the enemy's fortifications and settlements. It was a very brutal war, both due to the complexity of the locations where the battles took place and the cruelty of the attacks. The Treaty of Paris, reached in 1763, ended the war and marked the beginning of the continuous strengthening of British control over North America.
