The Studebaker US6 heavy-duty truck was developed by the Studebaker Corporation in 1941. The vehicle was characterized by its robust construction and an excellent 6-cylinder Hercules JXD engine with 94 horsepower, which provided the Studebaker US6 with high off-road capability. A total of approximately 200,000 vehicles were produced in thirteen variants. The Studebaker US6-U5 version was a versatile tanker truck equipped with a 750-gallon (2840 liters) tank from Heil. The tank consisted of two 375-gallon tanks mounted in tandem, with side brackets for 5-gallon fuel cans. The conversion of the vehicles into tankers was carried out at the Heil factory in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. About 1,150 of these modified vehicles were produced. They were delivered to US allies, although some speculation suggests that some tankers may have also been used by units of the US Army.
