This brigade was established in the summer of 1943 as a mobile unit to provide operational reinforcement to important German defense areas in the West. It included units of motorized infantry, self-propelled guns, pioneer, and reconnaissance units. An interesting feature of the brigade was its heavy armament, which predominantly consisted of models produced based on French trophy equipment. The construction office Baukommando Becker, led by military engineer Alfred Becker, was responsible for processing and modernizing this equipment. The models of this equipment also included self-propelled guns (105-mm howitzers and 75-mm anti-tank guns) developed from the French tank FCM 36, which was captured by the Wehrmacht in 1940. The conversion of the tanks into self-propelled guns was achieved by equipping them with armored cockpits, into which the guns were installed. The brigade also had French military vehicles, such as the Laffly V15T off-road vehicle, which was designated Laffly (f) Type V15T in the Wehrmacht.
