ICM DH. 82A Tiger Moth with bombs, WWII British training aircraft
Product details
In the summer of 1940, the German invasion of Britain seemed almost inevitable. Under these circumstances, the Air Ministry developed an operation codenamed Banquet. Its goal was to reinforce the RAF with training aircraft that were to be used as light bombers. The plan involved equipping the DH.82A Tiger Moth with bomb racks that could carry eight 20-pound light bombs. The aircraft were intended to attack Wehrmacht units as they landed on the British coast. The pilots of these bombers were instructors or the most experienced students from flight schools. Approximately 1,500 sets of bomb racks were prepared, which were successfully tested on these aircraft. There is also a known case of the combat use of the DH.82A Tiger Moth as a bomber in the Far East. During the defense of Singapore in February 1942, an aircraft from the Volunteer Air Force of Malaysia bombed advancing Japanese troops.
