The VBCI (Véhicule Blindé de Combat d'Infanterie - Armored Infantry Fighting Vehicle) ensures the transport, protection, and support of infantry combat groups and their command elements. The VBCIs deployed in Afghanistan since April 2010 are equipped with special features, including anti-RPG protective nets against rocket-propelled grenades and a mine protection casing beneath the chassis. In June 2012, 400 of the 630 VBCIs in the VCI (Véhicule de Combat d'Infanterie - Infantry Fighting Vehicle) and VPC (Véhicule Poste de Commandement - Mobile Command Post) variants were delivered.
