In 1939, the SOMUA S-35 was regarded as the best French tank - at that time, it was superior in many respects to all foreign tanks of the same category, including the German tanks. In the spring of 1940, the S-35 suffered a frontal assault and were almost completely destroyed or captured by the German forces.
