The Mirage F1B, a two-seat version of the Mirage F1C, took off for the first time from the runway in Istres on May 26, 1976. Derived from the French version of the Mirage F1BK, which was originally developed at the request of Kuwait, the Mirage F1B entered service in April 1981. It was commissioned by the Armée de l'Air as part of the 5e escadre de chasse (5th Fighter Wing) at Air Base 115 Orange, specifically with the 3/5 Fighter Squadron "Comtat-Venaissin." The Mirage F1B had the longest career in the history of the Mirage F1 in France: 1980 - 2014.
