Product details
In 1534, Jacques Cartier, a French navigator born in Saint Malo (1491-1557), was commissioned by François I to search for a route to Asia in the northern part of the New World. Aboard the Grande Hermine, a ship specially chartered for this journey, he reached Newfoundland and Canada, whose coasts had been discovered in 1497 by Cabot, a navigator of Venetian origin, and which he visited three times. He earned the title "Discoverer of Canada." The Grande Hermine was an exploration ship used for peaceful purposes and did not carry any weapons.
