On June 14, 1962, the French civil defense received its first SA 3160 Alouette III, number 1036 (F-ZBAL), from Sud Aviation. The first flight of the Alouette III (SE 3160 No. 001) took place on February 28, 1959. Known for its agility, the aircraft was considered ideal for surveillance and rescue missions at that time, especially for night vision flights.
