A prerequisite is always the networking of different devices with each other or with the internet. The RJ-45 connection (Ethernet) plays an increasingly important role in this context. It is no longer reserved solely for computers but is being used by more and more devices, whether it be televisions, gaming consoles, or washing machines. Thus, the Ethernet network represents a forward-looking infrastructure solution. This trend has been addressed by a newly established standard. The EN 50173-4 describes the proper installation of application-neutral communication cabling systems in residential buildings. Such an infrastructure, known in technical jargon as structured cabling, guarantees maximum data rates with minimal susceptibility to interference, thus providing an advantage over conventional application-specific cabling.
