For 15 years, from 1910 to 1924, Erich Mühsam, the most famous German anarchist, documented his life: in detail, stylistically pointed, unflinchingly honest even towards himself, and never boring. What makes these diaries so captivating is the keen perspective of a world-changer. Mühsam wanted to practically test anarchy. For him, anarchy meant living without moral blinders, without regard for conventions, and he proved that it was possible. Writing itself is action; in every sentence resonates the anticipation of the upheaval he actually brings about: the Munich Soviet Revolution is also his, and the vengeance of the Bavarian judiciary hits him hard. Mühsam's diary is a monumental work that is yet to be discovered. It is published in 15 volumes and simultaneously as an online edition.
