The Sd.Kfz 10 Demag D7 half-track tractor was used by German troops in large numbers on all major fronts during the Second World War, from the invasion of Poland to North Africa and Russia. It was designed and developed to be an effective prime mover for small towed artillery as an anti-aircraft and anti-tank gun. The Demag D7 could transport eight fully equipped soldiers in addition to towing a gun or trailer. The 4.2-litre Maybach 6-cylinder engine, positioned at the front of the vehicle, could produce 99 hp. Thanks to its engine, the half-track vehicle was able to reach a top speed of 65 km/h and perform well both on the road and off-road. The vehicle was reliable and flexible and was produced in a significant number of units and in several versions. The light howitzer Le. IG 18 light howitzer was designed to provide artillery support within infantry companies. Reliable and precise, towed by Demag or Protze tractors, it was often replaced by more powerful and lighter mortars during the war.
