Soft linoleum on canvas. Ideal for use as a printing plate after you have carved designs and lines into the surface with a linoleum cutter.

Sketch the desired design with a pencil and either cut it into the line or the background with a linoleum cutter. Always cut away from yourself, as the blades can be very sharp. Evenly apply linoleum ink to the printing plate with a linoleum roller, place a piece of paper over the printing plate, and roll over the back of the paper. Alternatively, you can print with a relief printing machine, which can create even sharper lines.

Creative work with linoleum plates is a classic in art education. However, this ancient craft is also exciting for others, from professional artists to anyone who enjoys experimenting with new crafting forms. If you want to create small images, you can cut the plate into small pieces – and even if you don't have a relief printing machine, you can make great prints with a good old linoleum roller.
