The model is a representation of the Vietnamese Army during the Vietnam War. The forces of the National Front for the Liberation of South Vietnam (NLF) consisted of both regular units of the North Vietnamese Army and irregulars. The term "Vietcong" was used as an umbrella term for NLF soldiers, but in general iconography, it represents the irregular guerrillas. The Vietcong were armed with weapons manufactured by the Soviet Union, such as the ubiquitous AK-47 Kalashnikov assault rifle and the semi-automatic SKS carbine. In January 1968, they participated in the massive Tet Offensive during the night of the Vietnamese New Year.
