The model is a replica of the Soviet tank IS-2. Soviet heavy tanks IS (the abbreviation IS stands for Iosif Stalin) were developed in 1943 as successors to the outdated KV series. The IS-1, armed with an 85 mm gun, was commissioned in September 1943, but it soon became clear that this weapon was not powerful enough to combat modern German tanks. By the end of 1943, a new modification with a 122 mm gun was developed, designated IS-2. This new tank was commissioned in early 1944 and participated in battles of the late Second World War. The IS-2 was rightly regarded as the strongest heavy tank of its time.
