The model is a replica of the British tank "Matilda II." The Matilda MK-II, or A12, was developed after Sir Archibald Wavell's visit to the USSR in 1936, where he was impressed by the Soviet T-28 tank. It was used by the British Army throughout World War II, particularly in North Africa and Asia, and was gradually replaced by newer Valentine tanks starting in late 1941. Although it shares a name with the earlier MK-I and the later A12, it was a completely different design. Nearly 3,000 of these robust, heavily armored tanks were produced. The Matilda II was built with extremely heavy armor, which limited its top speed to just 9.7 km/h. It was armed with an effective QF 2-pounder gun but suffered from a lack of high-explosive shells. This forced crews to rely on their single machine gun when fighting infantry. Due to its excellent armor protection, the tank was referred to as the "Queen of the Desert" by British crews.
