Ultrasonic focusing
An ultrasonic motor ensures very fast and extremely quiet focusing. Excellent holding torque prevents inaccuracies. In addition, manual focusing without switching is possible at any time. In this way the focus can be adjusted without having to switch off the AF function.
Attractive background blur
The practically circular aperture gives the blurred area a softer, more uniform appearance. The targeted use of background blur emphasizes the subject in the foreground.
Super Spectra coating
The Super Spectra coating provides excellent colour balance and enhanced contrast. It also minimises glare and stray light - a common problem caused by light being reflected by the camera's sensor.

Bei offener Blende zeigt das Canon 50 mm F 1,4 EF Usm Schwächen am Rand, wobei dies sowohl für Auflösung als auch Vignettierung gilt. Durch Abblenden lässt sich dies jedoch verbessern, zum Teil sogar ganz beheben. Die Fertigung des Objektivs ist sauber, wobei Mechanik und Bedienung auch im Allgemeinen als sehr gut bezeichnet werden können...
Obwohl die Abbildungsleistung abgeblendet sehr gut ist kann das Modell nicht empfohlen werden. das liegt vor allen Dingen daran, dass es offen über den gesamten Bereich eher schwache Leistungen bietet. Zwar ist nach dem Abblenden das Ergebnis deutlich besser aber die Ränder bzw. Ecken bleiben unter den Möglichkeiten.
Das das Canon nicht mehr ganz taufrisch ist merkt man ihm besonders am Geräusch an das beim Fokus zu hören ist. Hier sind moderne Objektive deutlich leiser. Dennoch macht das Modell einen insgesamt einen guten Job und abgesehen von den Randschwächen bei Offenblende ist das Gerät durchaus in der Lage gute und saubere Bilder zu schießen.
