Product details
The diamond-cut AS40 series chassis features a magnetic cover that allows convenient access to the internal hard drives. The hexagonal front panel forms a lightweight but sturdy frame for more durability and stability. The AS40 series also features an improved cooling design that allows for better airflow, ensuring longer life and lower failure rates. The ASUSTOR AS40 series is the first to feature tool-less drive frames to simplify hard drive installation. Clamps are included with each NAS for quick and easy installation of the drives. Hot-swapping of hard drives is supported in the AS40 series, enabling the swapping of hard drives without shutting down the NAS.
The Marvell 64-bit CPU of the AS40 series has two cores clocked at 1.6GHz based on the ARM Cortex-A72 microarchitecture. Compared to the Cortex-A15 core, the Cortex-A72 is three and a half times faster while consuming seventy-five percent less power. The AS40 series also features DDR4 RAM, which is soldered to the motherboard and provides even higher bandwidth with lower power consumption compared to DDR3.
The AS40 series is the first consumer NAS product line produced by ASUSTOR with 10Gbit/s network bandwidth. The 10Gbps network interface uses an RJ45 connector, which is more accessible to end users than SFP+ while being flexible to use with different network speeds and standards. The AS40 series can provide up to 3Gbps aggregate performance. Even without a 10Gbps switch or router, all Ethernet ports (two Gigabit, one 10 Gigabit) of the AS4000 series can be used simultaneously. With the link aggregation function, three Gigabit network connections can be interconnected into a single connection.
