Neben einer tollen Praxis-Performance bietet der ac-Router alle wichtigen Features wie Drucker-, FTP- und Media-Server. Der fehlende USB-3.0-Port kostet aber Punkte in der Wertung.
Der Asus RT-AC66U zeigt im Test eine insgesamt sehr starke Leistung – und zwar sowohl im ac-Netz als auch mit herkömmlichen WLAN-n-Gegenstellen. Kleiner Punktabzug in der B-Note: Der Stromverbrauch ist nicht optimal. Ein vergleichsweise günstiger Preis tröstet aber darüber hinweg.
Der Router ist rasend schnell und lässt sich recht einfach installieren, wobei man schon etwas geübt sein sollte mit dem Konfigurieren von derartigen Geräten. Das Menü ist sehr übersichtlich gestaltet sodass man sich schnell zurecht findet. Allerdings fehlt eine Verschlüsselung ab Werk, sodass man hier das Gerät auch installieren kann ohne die Verschlüsselung zu aktivieren.
Im Test zeigt sich der Router insbesondere bei der WLAN-Performance besonders stark, was er in erster Linie auch den externen Antennen zu verdanken hat. Lediglich im Bridge-Modus konnte das Gerät nur wenig überzeugen.
