Claude Monet (1840 - 1926) was one of the most significant French painters and is considered the epitome of Impressionism. His painting "Impression, Sunrise," exhibited in 1874, established this new style and gave it its name. His two great loves were painting and nature. He wanted to be as close to the latter as possible, which is why he primarily painted outdoors. He aimed to capture the fleeting moments of nature and depict light, shapes, and colors as his eyes perceived them. He sought to capture and reproduce the various natural light effects and influences. Therefore, he often painted the same scene multiple times, at different times of the day and year.
