With the Anybus Communicator, you can integrate serial devices (RS-232/422/485) into a Modbus RTU network without any modifications to the serial device. The Anybus Communicator is a proven and reliable protocol converter that connects non-networked devices with Modbus RTU. It performs intelligent protocol conversion and provides the serial data from the master PLC as I/O data. The Communicator is a compact standalone gateway for IP20 and DIN rail mounting, requiring a 24-volt power supply. It meets the current Modbus RTU specification and has been successfully tested for network compatibility.

The Communicator can configure almost any serial protocol, such as master/slave protocols like Modbus RTU, ASCII, DF1, as well as manufacturer-specific query/response or produce/consume protocols.

Typical serial applications include frequency converters, sensors, actuators, operator terminals, barcode readers, RFID readers, or industrial scales.
