CAT6 U/UTP Slimline data center Ethernet cables have a smaller diameter (3.8 mm compared to 5.9 mm) than conventional CAT 6 patch cables, and the bend radius is lower compared to standard patch cables. All of this leads to better airflow in the rack.

Although ISO/IEC and TIA standards describe the use of patch cables between 22 and 26 AWG, it is possible to use 28 AWG patch cables, which results in higher attenuation, especially at higher frequencies.

Therefore, ACT recommends a shorter permanent connection length than with conventional 24 AWG patch cables to account for this higher attenuation.

ACT advises a maximum bundle size of 24 cables in PoE applications to limit the temperature increases in the cables associated with the provision of PoE installations. Current standards restrict the maximum temperature rise to less than 15 degrees Celsius above the ambient value for the central cable in a bundle.
