CAT6A U/FTP slimline data center Ethernet cables have a smaller diameter (3.8 mm compared to 5.9 mm) than traditional CAT 6A patch cables. The bend radius is lower compared to standard patch cables, resulting in better airflow in the rack. Although the ISO/IEC and TIA standards describe the use of patch cables between 22 and 26 AWG, it is possible to use 32 AWG patch cables. This leads to higher attenuation, especially at higher frequencies. Therefore, it is recommended to use a shorter permanent link than with conventional 24 AWG patch cables to account for this increased attenuation. For PoE applications, a maximum bundle size of 24 cables is recommended. In this case, the temperature of the cables providing PoE installations will not rise. The standard limits the maximum temperature increase to less than 15 degrees Celsius above the ambient temperature for the central cable in a bundle.
