The need for a tank capable of combating the Soviet T-34 forced the Germans to design the tank destroyer Jagdpanther Sd.Kfz. 173, based on the Pz.V Panther. It was equipped with a main armament that was more powerful than that of the Panther tank, featuring the famous semi-automatic 88 mm gun with a barrel length of 71 calibers, which was installed in the front glacis plate. The projectile had a muzzle velocity of 1000 m/s and could penetrate armor thicknesses of 100 to 200 mm at a distance of 1 km. A total of 415 Jagdpanthers were produced in 1944/45.
