Product details

The reconnaissance fighter RF-4E Phantom II is the reconnaissance version of the famous two-seat multirole fighter from the legendary McDonnell Douglas Phantom II family. It was specifically designed for export and represented a combination of the reconnaissance systems of the RF-4C and the aerodynamic structure along with reinforced engines of the F-4E. The Air Force received the first examples in the early 1970s, where they were primarily used alongside Japan, Iran, Israel, and Greece. Many components and reconnaissance systems were also manufactured in Germany. The RF-4E was capable of conducting "all-weather" reconnaissance missions and could effectively and accurately map terrain thanks to its infrared sensors, targeting systems, and cameras. Some countries also developed mission-specific versions.
