The American Bell OH-13 Sioux is an icon of aviation history. This helicopter, with its distinctive design, was developed immediately after World War II and distributed to the U.S. Army in the late 1940s. Key features of the OH-13 Sioux included the "bubble canopy," the exposed tail boom (made of welded tubing), the rigid skid landing gear, and the balloon-shaped fuel tanks. The single-rotor helicopter had a three-seat cabin configuration and could reach a maximum speed of 170 km/h. It was both rugged and exceptionally reliable. During the Korean War, the OH-13 was used extensively and in large numbers for various purposes, including enemy observation, extended reconnaissance, and medical evacuation. The Sioux also served as a reconnaissance helicopter at the beginning of the Vietnam War.
