Art.no.: 510002801 Art.description: 1:48 FiatCR.42 "Battle of Britain 80thA. Model size: 17.3 cm Super decal Based on the success of the C. R. 32 "Freccia", which stood out for its high reliability and operational efficiency during the Spanish Civil War, the Italian manufacturer Fiat developed the new C. R. 42 "Falco" at the end of the 1930s. The new single-seat biplane had - like its predecessor - the fixed undercarriage and open cabin, but was equipped with important innovations such as the canvas and metal-clad alloy and steel frame. Thanks to its Fiat A.74 supercharged air-cooled radial engine, the Fiat C. R. could reach 42,400 km / h. It had exceptional manoeuvrability, much appreciated by Italian pilots, but suffered from the configuration limitations of the "biplane". It was able to successfully engage the Gloster Gladiators, but was soon surpassed by faster and heavily armed monoplane aircraft such as the Hawker Hurricane and the Supermarine Spitfire. Several Fiat C. R. 42s, they were also used along with Fiat G 50 fighters and BR-20 and CANT Z 1007 bombers during the Battle of Britain as part of the Italian Air Corps.
