The Landing Craft Mechanized (LCM) are probably the most famous landing boats in history, and their profile is closely associated with the amphibious operations of the Allies during World War II, from Anzio to the beaches of Normandy. The LCM-3 version is certainly one of the most successful and effective. The design was simple and linear, yet extremely rational. The large front loading ramp allowed for the quick unloading of a fully armed infantry team as well as a 30-ton medium Sherman tank. The armor was very light to protect the diesel engine, enabling the LCM to reach a maximum speed of 8 knots, along with the necessary crew for navigation and close defense, consisting of four men. However, the significant aspect was the loading capacity and operational flexibility, which allowed the LCM-3 to secure an important place in the military history of the 20th century.
