During the 1930s, a number of production agreements were made to manufacture a range of trucks in the Canadian subsidiaries of the major US car manufacturers, which were ideal for meeting the transport needs of British troops and the major Commonwealth countries. Production expanded over the course of the Second World War, and the Canadian Military Pattern (CMP) trucks accompanied Commonwealth troops on the main European fronts, from the North African campaign to the invasion of Sicily and the Normandy landings. Robust, reliable and particularly effective in operational use, they were produced in numerous configurations and with various roles, from military logistics to artillery towing. The CWT 15 version with all-wheel drive and good load capacity was particularly popular.
