During the 1930s, a series of production agreements were made to manufacture a range of trucks in the Canadian subsidiaries of major U.S. automobile manufacturers, ideally suited to meet the transportation needs of British troops and key Commonwealth countries. Production expanded during World War II, and the Canadian Military Pattern Trucks accompanied Commonwealth forces on major European fronts, from the North African campaign to the invasion of Sicily and the landing in Normandy. Robust, reliable, and particularly effective in operational use, they were produced in numerous configurations and for various roles, from military logistics to artillery towing. The CWT 15 version, with all-wheel drive and good payload capacity, was especially valued.
