Netgear RAX120 Nighthawk (5G, WiFi 6)
Netgear RAX120 Nighthawk (5G, WiFi 6)
This thing gets a lot of praise for its performance and ease of setup. My recommendation: Hands off!
The fact that the RAX120 can be installed ONLY via app, I find stupid, but still tolerable. Apparently Nighthawks, so also other devices of this series, have a problem with certain devices in the LAN, resulting in frequent and spontaneous reboots. ChromeCast and Philips Hue, both present in my case, are supposed to be the scapegoats here. M.M.n. speaks but more for the fact that the RAX120 is defective from the ground up. In this price range, I expect a little more stability.

It was a blind buy in confidence with a long lead time, so to speak. The device has been available for subscribers for a while, but you won't find too many empirical values.
However, it was assumed that the part with the Qualcomm chipset can not really be bad. This also turned out to be the case after the start-up. Although AX devices are still rather a thing of the future, the router is generally well positioned. The user interface is reasonably fast and well equipped so far. The prospect of Open-WRT is virtually guaranteed, especially since it is the chosen SDK from Qualcomm anyway. The speed and range are good, but are within the range of the top routers due to the 100mW allowed by law. So anyone expecting a megaboost in terms of range will be hoping in vain, as usual.
The user interface itself is a matter of taste. I would rather have it a bit more sorted. But you can find what you're looking for.
The 5Gbit port can also be used as a WAN port. This means that 1Gbit+ lines can also be used as they should be. Only a SFP+ slot is missing. That would have been more than fine for the RAX120.
The signal strength is -63 dBm through three walls with open room doors, and -19 dBm directly at the router.
The rating will be updated if new information comes to light.

This is not 5G mobile router. This is 5Ghz router. Such a waste of time.

I purchased this router about 3 months ago since I was having issues with my old router not having the wireless range and speed I need for my apartment size and design.
While this router is extremely fast and has really good range, there are some serious issues with the firmware which causes frequent reboots. Each time the router reboots, WiFi is lost for a few minutes while the router is rebooting. Sometimes it can go a day without a reboot and sometimes it will reboot 5 times within an hour. Needless to say, it is not possible to work from home with such an intermittent internet connection.
I assumed the issue of losing my internet was associated with my ISP because I thought there was no way a router this expensive could have such issues. However after using a test router provided by my ISP, I realized the issue was the router. After searching online and reading other Galaxus reviews, I found this is an issue experienced by many other users with no solution.
I hope that Galaxus lets me return this product so that I can purchase another router of equal or similar value. I do not think I will ever buy a Netgear product again after this experience
The presence of a fan is not a problem, as the RAX120 remains very quiet.
Offers a very wide coverage, also "upwards" (correct reception upstairs too, even through the slab)
A bit too imposing (bad for WAF 😉 )
