When it comes to testing new notebooks, the digitec editorial team is quickly on fire. However, due to the large number of products tested, we disagree on which notebook should be the best of the year. It's not a bad thing that we have different tastes here. That way you can decide which of the notebooks presented should be the winner.

We still have to get through Christmas, but after that we can finally start enjoying ourselves. We're looking forward to a new year with lots of great notebooks that all want to be tested. Lots of goodies that we'll be tearing out of each other's hands to write honest reviews for you. Until then, however, we still have to choose the notebook of the year.

You can influence which of the proposed products wins the race by taking part in the poll at the end of the article. In case you are not satisfied with our suggestions, we have added the best-selling notebooks to the voting list. We are excited to see which one will ultimately win the race.

Philipp Rüegg chooses his notebook of the year: Huawei Matebook X Pro

This year, my wife and I decided to buy a device together. The ideal excuse for me to go for a more expensive device. After all, we're saving money now. I opted for the Matebook X Pro because it has everything that is important to me. Lightweight, compact, fast, durable and a stylish design. Apart from intensive gaming, I can do everything I want on it. If a 2-in-1 version ever comes along, I wouldn't say no.

Raphael Knecht chooses his notebook of the year: Microsoft Surface Pro

My notebook of the year 2018 is and remains the Surface Pro. Although my favourite is now over 3 years old, it still works perfectly. I wouldn't swap it for any other notebook in the world, even if I received it as a gift. I like the fact that it's handy, has a touchscreen, I can quickly plug the keyboard in and out and it's intuitive to use. I use it as a normal laptop during long meetings or take notes on the display with the pen during stand-ups. The Surface is also relatively light and fits perfectly in my Freitag bag thanks to the slim keyboard. If the latest Surface from Microsoft's technology forge wasn't so expensive, I would definitely have snapped it up.

Stephanie Tresch chooses her notebook of the year: Dell XPS 15

My notebook of the year 2018 is and remains the XPS 15 from last year. It is my faithful companion at trade fairs and in everyday life and can do everything from rendering Full HD to 4K. Not only is it a powerhouse, but it also looks elegant and isn't too heavy for my backpack in everyday life. The laptop even fits into a sleeve that I still have from an old 13-inch MacBook. Very practical. The screen is extremely sharp and clear. It also looks large and almost borderless, even though the laptop is very small for a 15-inch device.
I have become very accustomed to the touchscreen and the comfortable scrolling and zooming with my finger. I'll never scroll with a mouse again. Definitely not.

Ramon Schneider chooses his notebook of the year: Lenovo ThinkPad E470/E480

In the middle of this year, the mainboard of my MacBook gave up the ghost. As the planned obsolescence only occurred after the warranty had expired, I had to bear the costs of any repairs myself. As I would have to give up my spleen for a new mainboard, I decided against a transplant and in favour of a new notebook. My requirements were low. It had to be cheap and be able to play Porn Netflix. I decided in favour of the Lenovo ThinkPad E470. It has since been replaced by the E480.

Kevin Hofer chooses his notebook of the year: GPD Pocket

When it comes to notebooks, I'm all about the fun factor. The little GPD Pocket is full of it. It's an oddball between a smartphone and a notebook. This special status makes it really likeable, I like underdogs. You can't really use it for anything and the performance is weak, but that doesn't matter. Once you've had it in your hands, you won't want to do without it again.

Martin Jud chooses his notebook of the year: Microsoft Surface Go

When I think back to the numerous notebook reviews this year, my favourite is Microsoft's Surface Go. Although I initially struggled mightily with the pre-installed Windows 10 in S mode on the 2-in-1 device and was upset that Microsoft was now also trying to keep its users on a tight leash in Apple style. But after successfully switching to Windows 10 Home for free, I was completely won over by the Surface Pro's little brother. At 10 inches, it is just big enough to work productively with. And thanks to its compact dimensions, it is small and light enough (522 grams) to take anywhere. It also has a beautiful design and feels very high-quality thanks to its magnesium casing. The fact that there is room for improvement in terms of battery life cannot change the fact that the x86 processor-powered tablet, together with the Surface Go Type Cover, is my personal notebook of the year 2018.

I find my muse in everything. When I don’t, I draw inspiration from daydreaming. After all, if you dream, you don’t sleep through life.
