BMW launches smart sunglasses for motorbikes

Navigation instructions, speed, gear number - the new BMW Motorrad ConnectedRide Smartglasses display all of this directly in the rider's field of vision.
You may already be familiar with head-up displays from the car industry. Relevant information such as speed or navigation is displayed directly on the windscreen. This keeps your eyes on the road at all times.
A head-up display is more difficult to implement on a motorbike because the windscreen is not as large. But there are already solutions here too. For example, we have the mini screen from Tilsberk in our range, which is mounted on the helmet.
Now BMW is also entering the market: The ConnectedRide Smartglasses will be officially presented on 7 July and cost 690 euros. However, the market launch is still unclear.
One pair of glasses, several versions
In contrast to other systems, BMW packs the technology into a pair of sunglasses that you wear under your helmet. The glasses are available in two sizes and come with two lenses. In addition to the tinted lens, there is also an 85 per cent transparent lens - if you wear the glasses under a helmet with a darkened visor. Incidentally, the smart glasses are also suitable for spectacle wearers. Thanks to the RX adapter, the visual acuity can be adjusted up to a maximum of 4.5 dioptres.

What the glasses can do
One major advantage is also the biggest disadvantage: the glasses are connected to the smartphone and the BMW Motorrad Connected app via Bluetooth. And this in turn directly with the motorbike. This means that information such as the number of gears can be transmitted directly from the vehicle and you can control the display with the multicontroller on the handlebars. However, the glasses only work with BMW motorbikes, of course.
The battery should last ten hours, so that the smart glasses can also be used on longer tours. The speed, speed limit, number of gears and navigation can be displayed. The sat nav can be used in two modes: with reduced arrow displays or with detailed navigation including street names, junctions and precise directions.

Gadgets are my passion - whether you need them for the home office, for the household, for sport and pleasure or for the smart home. Or, of course, for the big hobby next to the family, namely fishing.
