If you need an internet hotspot when you're on the move, the M8550 could be of interest to you. In addition to 5G Internet, it also offers standard encryption and tri-band Wi-Fi.

With the M8550, we now have a top-of-the-range mobile 5G router from TP-Link in our range. It's perfect for you if you're travelling a lot for work and need fast internet without using your smartphone as a hotspot for your devices. Or if you need to take your colleagues to a team-building event in the forest.

Main features of the router

The M8550 provides mobile Internet for up to 32 devices via 5G, LTE and 3G without an external power supply. With appropriate mobile network coverage, a download speed of up to 3.4 gigabits per second is possible, while upload speeds of up to 900 megabits per second can be achieved.

The Wi-Fi provided with the Wi-Fi 6E standard operates on three frequency bands: 2.4 gigahertz, five gigahertz and six gigahertz. The router can transmit up to 2880 megabits per second via Wi-Fi. You can also connect a device directly to the router via cable using the Ethernet port.

The M8550 uses a Wireguard VPN connection by default so that you can access your company network even when you're on the move. Your data is transmitted in encrypted form.

A TFT touchscreen on the top of the router displays the most important information. You can also use it to access the settings. For example, the screen informs you about the current consumption data, the transmission speed and the number of connected devices.

Mains operation or battery possible

The router's USB-C port can be used to charge the battery or for fast data transfer: The router has a micro SD card slot. This allows you to use the router as a data backup or cache. Cards with a capacity of up to two terabytes are supported.

If you remove the battery, you can use the router permanently in mains operation via USB-C. The battery has a capacity of 4680 mAh, which according to the manufacturer «should allow carefree travelling throughout the day» An energy-saving function extends the runtime when the battery is low.

For better reception, the router offers an interface for two optionally available TS-9 antennas. The M8550 requires a nano SIM card.
