Asus ROG line-up 2020: 300 Hz displays, dual screens for gaming and Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Super

Asus ROG is bringing the dual-monitor setup to their gaming notebooks. These new laptops also offer lots of graphics power and optional AMD Ryzen processors (4th Gen H and HS) or Intel processors (10th Gen) up to Intel Core i9-10980HK.

The Asus ROG gaming notebook line-up for 2020 has been announced. And one of them is bound to get a lot of attention: the ROG Zephyrus DUO 15 with its second display. To date, Asus has applied their dual screen concept to the ZenBook series. Now, the extra screen is not only providing more work space and additional speed for an improved workflow but also strives to impress with additional game content. The first game to support dual screen is expected to be «Dying Light 2». What will be appearing on the screen is still unknown – as is the game’s release date.

Asus ROG has increased the brightness on the second screen compared to the ZenBooks. In addition, it’s no longer the entire base of the notebook that lifts when it’s opened, but just the touch display.

More power for ROG Zephyrus (Duo), ROG Strix and ASUS TUF

Thanks to their various display options, the new ROG gaming laptops are not only suitable for gamers. For example, there are displays optionally pre-calibrated at 300 Hz for Pantone. Now that sounds like any gamer's dream. Or pre-calibrated UHD displays for Pantone and Adobe RGB, especially developed with graphic designers and creative professionals in mind. Furthermore, the line-up includes powerful 4th Gen AMD and 10th Gen Intel processors – the flagship being the Intel Core i9-10980HK. The interesting thing about all the Intel processors used is that they don’t use thermal paste but liquid metal. By the way, about a month ago a first benchmark for the allegedly fastest gaming notebook processor in the world, the i9-10980HK, emerged.

But Intel needs to stay on its toes. The mobile Ryzen 4000 series seems to be extremely fast and economical. For example, in a Test they carried out, Heise discovered that an Asus Zephyrus G14 with Ryzen 9 4900HS scored a far better result in Cinebench R20 than Intel’s ninth generation octa-core counterpart Core i9-9880H and Core i9-9980HK.

Looking at the graphics performance, Republic of Gamers also offers an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080. It’s basically the uncut non-Max-Q model. ROG offers both Nvidia G-Sync and Nvidia Optimus. The new notebooks can switch between the dedicated graphics card and the GPU of the processor. Not only does this have an effect on the battery life. It also means you can leave the adapter at home and charge your notebook via a common USB-C or Thunderbolt port when working with low graphics power requirements.

As far as the RAM is concerned, there are now also models with DDR4-3200. Depending on the model, up to three M.2 SSD slots are available. If you need to manually attach the RAM or SSD, you can get access by removing a single screw.

Overview of the new ROG gaming notebooks

Update from 9 April, 4:45 p.m. Finally, the products and prices are available in our shop. What's missing, it's not yet possible to order a model with 2080 Super that doesn't have a Max-Q design. However, this should soon change with the ROG Strix Scar 17 due in mid-July.

I find my muse in everything. When I don’t, I draw inspiration from daydreaming. After all, if you dream, you don’t sleep through life.
