Well, here is my review of the HP Omen 17 after using it for a couple of weeks. Performance is great, no doubt about that, it is very cheap. HOWEVER here is my main problem with this laptop which I think is actuallky a disgrace...
UPGRADING THE SDD AND HDD TO A LARGER SIZE INVALIDATES THE WARRANTY!
Yes, that is not a joke. HP have decided, in their infinite wisdom, that 256GB is the largest size that a gamer needs in their high performance desktop replacement notebook. This is completely ridiculous, considering that any serious gamer usually has over 300GB of Steam game installs, and the first thing they do when they buy a new laptop is swap out the SSD for a 500GB or 1TB capacity drive..
So, rather than do what any normal and sensible notebook manufacturer would do and give you access to the HDD slots, HP have decided to hide them inside the internal components along with the motherboard etc. This means that to open it up, you have to pop open the case with special tools and therefore invalidate the warranty. I even contacted HP via their support forums and also telephone lines to ask if they could perform the upgrade for me in a registered service center, or if I could take it to a local HP reseller to do the SDD install, and they said no, this was not possible. So basically they provide NO OPTION for anyone who needs more than 256GB of SSD space. They do not care.
I did not realise this before I bought the laptop, and that is my fault for not researching fully. However, in my (weak) defense, I never expected this situation to occur as every laptop I have ever bought allows you access to the HDD bays. Unfortunately, I can no longer return my laptop and so have now bought a 1TB NVMe drive and will perform the replacement myself and therefore invalidate my warranty.
Never will I again be buying a HP laptop. They are a company completely out of touch with the reality of gaming requirements who simply do not care about the users.
