Equivalent to ~50mm on a DX sensor, it's great for portraits, street photography, etc.
F/1.8 is pretty bright, so you can shoot in lower light. The price is also quite compelling.
I bought this lens to photograph my baby daughter - sometimes it's a bit dark around the baby, so that f/1.8 comes handy. The lens is pretty sharp and has a decently shallow DoF, so I can really nail the focus on the eyes and blur the background.
The only downside so far is that the auto-focus is a bit slow - it takes maybe a quarter of a second to lock on. It's not a big deal (unless you need to be reaally fast for some reason) and when you have it in mind you can work around it quite easily.
