Hält nicht, was er verspricht

Die Werbung verspricht passwortloses Login. Das ist für Privatanwender genereell nicht zu haben.
Windows: " username + password + YubiKey. It's intended to add security, not convenience to the login flow. "

Dieses Produkt ist (noch) nicht für Endkunden geeignet, sondern eher für Firmen, welche ihre IT-Infrastruktur sicherer ausgestalten mächten. Es kann zwar mit Windows lokal eingesetzt werden, aber nur in Zusammenhang mit Passwort und Username, also als zusätzliche Sicherung. Nichts von Passwordless. Auch bei den Online - Diensten sieht es nicht besser aus, eher schlechter. Da ist es meist so, dass man den Yubikey zusätzlich nutzt, um einen Code auf dem Mobiltelefon zu generieren, den man dann abtippen muss. Es ist dann nutzbar, wenn man ein konkretes Produkt schützen will, welches sich gut mit dem Yubikey integriert - das muss aber vor dem Kauf gut geprüft werden, sonst wird es recht umständlich (Originaltext Yubikey zu Proton-Login):
1. Launch Yubico Authenticator.
2. On the device you want to sign in to your account with, begin logging in by entering your user name and password as normal.
3. Find the authenticator code you need in Yubico Authenticator:
Launch Yubico Authenticator for Android, and tap and hold your NFC-enabled YubiKey against the NFC antenna on the back of your phone. The code is shown next to the service's credential. Note: If you set the credential to require touch, you will need to tap the YubiKey against your phone a second time (this is how touch is implemented over NFC, as NFC does not provide enough power for the capacitive touch sensor on the YubiKey to function).
4. Enter the code on the website and click Sign In (or similar). Tip: In Yubico Authenticator for Desktop, you can double-click the code, and then paste it into the field for the authenticator code.
