Nikon AF-S DX VR 16-85mm + AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm 1.8 auf Canon 5D

Hallo Zusammen,
Jay

As the Canon is a full frame and your lenses are DX then they does not fit the full frame format (FX at Nikon). The equivalent of the DX lenses at Nikon are the EF-S at Canon and they are not compatible with the Canon 5D.

There is an adapter from Novoflex https://www.digitec.ch/de/s1/product/novoflex-adapter-nikon-objektive-an-canon-eos-kameras-objektivadapter-249070 but it does not make sense due to the crop factor (I think the inverse would work: FX Nikon lenses to a DX Canon Camera as all DX camera can supports DX (EF-S) and FX (EF) lenses).

When you invest in a Camera like the 5D (or any other Full-Frame / 24x36mm of any brand) you should also invest in proper lenses that cover that captor.

In my opinion the best is to resell your lenses or to keep a DX cheap Nikon camera as second body with those two lens.

The Nikon FX camera have a Crop Mode which make them to use DX lenses with the middle of the FX captor only(with a reduction of definition of (1,5)^2) but this mode seems not to be present in Canon cameras (source: https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3947118 for the 5d mk III).

For your knowledge:

DX = Nikon terminology for APS-C format (and lenses compatble only for that format)
FX = Nikon terminology for Full-Frame (or 24x36mm) format
EF = Canon terminology for Lenses for the Full-frame format
EF-S = Canon terminology for Lenses for the APS-C format

APS-C = small format camera (Nikon have a crop factor of 1,5x and Canon a Cro factor of 1,6x)
