The camera is not meant as a still photography camera, it's primary purpose is to take action video, which it does well. It's some what easy to figure out, with an easy to find record button on top. The screen is a little tough to see without the provided pistol grip mount or rotating the whole camera. This function of it means you can't manipulate the settings on the fly too easily. Basically the first thing that you need to remember, when getting ready to use this camera is to change any setting you need to be able to see prior before mounting it. The controls on the top of the camera serve multiple functions, and can get confusing to figure out which one's which. I've been using this camera for over 6 months now and I find that it's "tough" moniker lives up to the name; I've taken it snowboarding and SCUBA diving. Nothing really fantastic but it's so far survived a few crashes in the snow and more than a couple hours at depths maxing out at 15 meters, after all that it looks pretty good and doesn't show signs of internal damage. It's greatest weakness is it's shape and shape, it doesn't mount easily with the generic action mounts available and can feel cumbersome on my wrist or head mounted.
It's greatest fault though is external software. Olympus has done nothing for video editing software. I bought it primarily because I don't need multiple sensors to record data like GPS location, speed, elevation, depth, ect; it's all supposed to be available to easily upload during editing. This is far from the case, the only software available to read the files is the native Olympus phone app: OI Track. The alternate phone app is a wireless remote system that doesn't capture the data at all, OI Share and neither can upload the 4k quality video. The Wi-Fi connection is rough and cuts out from time to time. The Olympus's editing software for computers is View 3 and it's terrible trapped in the early millennia. It can't even capture the data recorded by the tracker.
