I would like to point out that this drive is definitely compatible with Mac OS. The software supplied with it is for Windows only, but the drive itself works fine with a Mac (in my case, with OS 10.12.06 Sierra). The drive really deserves a 5-star rating but I'm deducting one star because no Mac software is supplied. If you use the drive only for data archival with your Mac, no additional software is required. Simply use the Mac Finder to burn your data onto Blu-ray discs.
By the way, only the box is made by Buffalo, the drive inside is a Pioneer BD-RW BDR-209M.
If you wish to use your Mac to create Blu-ray movie discs that can be played on any Blu-ray player (or DVD movies) then you will need additional disc-authoring software such as Roxio Toast.
A software Blu-ray movie player for Mac OS can be downloaded from Leawo free of charge and it works very well with this drive.
In other words, I can recommend this drive for Mac users. I can't understand why Buffalo doesn't make it clear that this drive also works fine with a Mac. Maybe they're ashamed to admit that they supply no Mac software with it!…plus
