I have an old Garmin nüvi where the route recording is always active. Every few months I can then read out and save the GPX files on the PC. This does not work with a newer Tomtom. The recording has to be restarted for each route and can only be exported with great difficulty, as the Tomtom is no longer recognised as a drive on the PC. How does route recording work with the Garmin DriveSmart? And; is the device still recognised as a drive on the PC?

Helpful answer

Drive devices have worked like the outdoor devices for years. They have an "Archives" folder in which the trip logs are stored as .gpx files. The last 20 tracks with a maximum of 10,000 track points each are always recorded. From experience, a new track can also be used when a certain MB size is reached. 10000 track points are therefore not a definitive limit. The device is an MTP device whereby it can be brought into the mass storage.
