Yes, it can, SIM cards from other suppliers also work without any problems.

I bought the mobile here too and put the SIM card in.
And then it worked.
I have never had any problems with Sony Xperias with Swisscom or Sunrise SIM cards, not even with exotic SIM cards e.g. from Colombia, but this model was only operated by me with a Sunrise SIM.
