Description

The WD Purple storage solution for surveillance systems offers exclusive AllFrame technology to provide you with world-class reliability and security when installing your security system for your home or small to medium-sized business. WD Purple's exclusive firmware upgrades use ATA streaming to reduce pixel errors and video interruptions that occur when desktop hard drives are mistakenly used as storage in security systems. WD Purple special drive technology is designed for continuous HD surveillance security systems that use up to eight hard drives and 32 cameras.

Choose a drive designed and developed for home or business surveillance systems. Enjoy the security you only get from a drive for surveillance environments.

Desktop drives compared to drives for surveillance systems:
You would certainly not transport cargo on a bicycle across the country, as it is not the right tool for this work. Therefore, you should not use a desktop hard drive in your surveillance security system, as it was not designed for this application.

The compatibility of WD Purple special drive technology for monitoring environments has been tested in numerous security systems. These drives are designed to replace standard desktop drives that are not designed for a demanding 24-hour HD monitoring environment. Desktop drives are designed to operate only at short intervals and are not designed to withstand the high temperature fluctuations and device vibrations found in a typical monitoring application.

Monitoring memory for more security:
Whether you want to protect your personal assets and family or monitor the business you've built hard: You can rely on the special drive technology for monitoring environments manufactured by one of the world's largest manufacturers of hard drives. The WD Purple storage solution for surveillance environments is designed for high temperature, continuous operation surveillance security systems to ensure reliability and high quality video playback when you need it most. Enjoy the peace of mind of knowing that you are using a surveillance drive developed by a leader in the storage industry.

Hard drives

A hard disk drive, often abbreviated hard drive or HDD, is a magnetic storage device used for storing data. Data is written on the surface of a rotating disk that is coated with magnetic material and magnetized according to the recorded information. One of the main advantages of hard drives is the low price for capacity. The biggest drawback is its mechanism, which is fault-prone and slower than flash memory. Hard drives are ideal for storing or streaming large amounts of data.

Data storage properties

i

Data storage properties

A data storage device is a device for recording (storing) information (data). Recording can be done using virtually any form of energy, spanning from manual muscle power in handwriting, to acoustic vibrations in phonographic recording, to electromagnetic energy modulating magnetic tape and optical discs. A storage device may hold information, process information, or both. A device that only holds information is a recording medium. Devices that process information (data storage equipment) may either access a separate portable (removable) recording medium or a permanent component to store and retrieve information.

Buffer size

Buffer size

In computer science, a buffer is a region of a physical memory storage used to temporarily hold data while it is being moved from one place to another. Typically, the data is stored in a buffer as it is retrieved from an input device (such as a mouse) or just before it is sent to an output device (such as speakers). However, a buffer may be used when moving data between processes within a computer. This is comparable to buffers in telecommunication. Buffers can be implemented in a fixed memory location in hardware - or by using a virtual data buffer in software, pointing at a location in the physical memory. In all cases, the data stored in a data buffer, are stored on a physical storage media.

Maximum rotation speed
i

Maximum rotation speed

Rotational speed (sometimes called speed of revolution) tells how many complete rotations (i.e. revolutions or cycles) there are per time unit. It is therefore a cyclic frequency, measured in hertz (revolutions per second) in the SI System. The units revolutions per minute (rpm or 1/min) are more common in everyday life.

Rotational speed, for example, how fast a motor is running. Rotational speed and angular speed are sometimes used as synonyms, but typically they are measured with a different unit.

Server
i

Server

In most common use, server is a physical computer (a computer hardware system) dedicated to running one or more such services (as a host), to serve the needs of users of the other computers on the network. Depending on the computing service that it offers it could be a database server, file server, mail server, print server, web server, or other.

i

NAS

Network-attached storage (NAS) is file-level computer data storage connected to a computer network providing data access to a heterogeneous group of clients. NAS not only operates as a file server, but is specialized for this task either by its hardware, software, or configuration of those elements.
