Description

The powerful megazoom starts at an unprecedented 16mm and with a telephoto focal length of 300mm, it delivers maximum flexibility in all situations. By integrating the PZD (Piezo Drive) ultrasonic motor, Tamron not only enhances the performance of this all-round lens, but also opens up new possibilities to make photography more convenient, enjoyable and accessible.

Extended flexibility from wide-angle to telephoto
This megazoom shifts the boundaries of conventional travel zoom in both wide-angle and telephoto areas. With a minimum focal length of 16mm (equivalent to an angle of view of 24.8mm in 35mm) up to a maximum focal length of 300mm (equivalent to an angle of view of 465mm), this remarkable lens offers a zoom factor of 18.8x. It thus meets the demand of many customers for increased flexibility.
Whether the extended wide angle or the long 300mm telephoto focal length: the desired zoom factor can be selected quickly and easily with a slight turn.

Sophisticated and reliable image quality in a universally applicable lens

The 16 lens design with 16 lenses in 12 groups comprises three aspherical, one hybrid aspherical element, two LD (Low Dispersion) and one XR (Extra Refractive Index) glass element and one UXR (Ultra-Extra Refractive Index) glass, which has a higher refractive index than XR glasses.

Close range limit of only 39 cm for macro photography

The new lens offers a close-up range of 0.39 m over the entire zoom range, with a maximum magnification of 1:2.9, making it even easier to bring exciting details close up and set them in scene.

Camera lens properties

i

Camera lens properties

A camera lens (also known as photographic lens, objective lens or photographic objective) is an optical lens or assembly of lenses used in conjunction with a camera body and mechanism to make images of objects either on photographic film or on other media capable of storing an image chemically or electronically.
While in principle a simple convex lens will suffice, in practice a compound lens made up of a number of optical lens elements is required to correct (as much as possible) the many optical aberrations that arise. Some aberrations will be present in any lens system. It is the job of the lens designer to balance these out and produce a design that is suitable for photographic use and possibly mass production.
A lens may be permanently fixed to a camera, or it may be interchangeable with lenses of different focal lengths, apertures, and other properties.

Super zoom lens

The term superzoom or hyperzoom refers to photographic zoom lenses with unconventionally large focal length factors, typically more than 5× or even ranging beyond 15×.

Lens mount
i

Lens mount

A lens mount is an interface — mechanical and often also electrical — between a photographic camera body and a lens. It is confined to cameras where the body allows interchangeable lenses, most usually the single lens reflex type or any movie camera of 16 mm or higher gauge. Lens mounts are also used to connect optical components in instrumentation that may not involve a camera, such as the modular components used in optical laboratory prototyping which join via C-mount or T-mount elements.

Focal length
i

Focal length

The focal length of an optical system is a measure of how strongly it converges (focuses) or diverges (diffuses) light. A system with a shorter focal length has greater optical power than one with a long focal length.

i

Focal Length APS-C / DX (35mm film equivalent)

In photography, the 35 mm equivalent focal length is a measure that indicates the angle of view of a particular combination of a camera lens and film or sensor size. The term is useful because most photographers experienced with interchangeable lenses are most familiar with the 35 mm film format.

Focusing

i

Focusing

In geometrical optics, a focus, also called an image point, is the point where light rays originating from a point on the object converge. Although the focus is conceptually a point, physically the focus has a spatial extent, called the blur circle. This non-ideal focusing may be caused by aberrations of the imaging optics. In the absence of significant aberrations, the smallest possible blur circle is the Airy disc, which is caused by diffraction from the optical system's aperture. Aberrations tend to get worse as the aperture diameter increases, while the Airy circle is smallest for large apertures.

In optics, a diaphragm is a thin opaque structure with an opening (aperture) at its center. The role of the diaphragm is to stop the passage of light, except for the light passing through the aperture.

More information...

Maximum aperture f/
i

Maximum aperture f/

In optics, an aperture is a hole or an opening through which light travels. More specifically, the aperture of an optical system is the opening that determines the cone angle of a bundle of rays that come to a focus in the image plane. The aperture determines how collimated the admitted rays are, which is of great importance for the appearance at the image plane. If an aperture is narrow, then highly collimated rays are admitted, resulting in a sharp focus at the image plane. If an aperture is wide, then uncollimated rays are admitted, resulting in a sharp focus only for rays with a certain focal length. This means that a wide aperture results in an image that is sharp around what the lens is focusing on and blurred otherwise. The aperture also determines how many of the incoming rays are actually admitted and thus how much light reaches the image plane (the narrower the aperture, the darker the image for a given exposure time).
