Description

More phase detection autofocus points:
Thanks to the incredible 425 AF points for phase detection in the focal plane, close to the entire image area, this comprehensive AF point cover ensures that no object misses it.

Improved fast hybrid AF:
The world's fastest autofocus (0.05 seconds) uses the Bionz X image processor to help you focus on a moving object with impressive precision.

Particularly precise recording of fast-paced action scenes:
High-density AF technology quickly activates AF points to cover moving objects with 7.5 times the density of the? 6000, providing outstandingly accurate and stable positioning and tracking of moving objects.

Improved resolution and efficiency:
With a new copper wire layer and a processing circuitry for improved light sensitivity, the image sensor expands the sensitivity range to up to ISO 51200 while simultaneously reducing noise.

Get more out of your image processor:
The Bionz X image processor, together with the image sensor, provides photos and videos with more clarity and detail and less noise, especially in the medium to high ISO range.

For the ultimate resolution in 4K video recording:
A full pixel reading without pixel binning (approx. 2.4 times (equivalent to 6K) as much image data compressed into 4K) ensures the ultimate resolution and closeness to reality in 4K video recordings.

Take advantage of the potential of post-processing possibilities:S-Gamut/S-Log allows you to capture a wide dynamic range (max. 1300%) for creating more expressive post-processing videos.
The? 6300 even offers 14 levels of exposure latitude in the S-Log3 gamma setting.

Preview and capture your desired motifs:
The new high-contrast, high-resolution XGA OLED Tru-Finder offers fascinating displays, especially when the new 120 fps shooting mode is selected for smoother scenes and tracking.

Use Wi-Fi/NFC/QR code for seamless, easy connectivity:
Wireless connections via Near Field Communication (and now also via QR code for non-NFC smartphones) make the transmission of image data from the? 6300 to mobile devices child's play.

Sensor properties

Image sensor resolution
i

Image sensor resolution

The image sensor resolution results from the number of pixels in millions. For most applications, a resolution of 12-16 megapixels is sufficient. A higher resolution has advantages, especially in post-processing, as more image information is available.

i

Image sensor type

An image sensor is a device that converts an optical image to an electric signal. It is used mostly in digital cameras and other imaging devices. An image sensor is typically a charge-coupled device (CCD) or a complementary metal–oxide–semiconductor (CMOS) active-pixel sensor.

More information...

i

CMOS

Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) is a term for semiconductor devices that use both p-channel and n-channel MOSFETs on a common substrate. CMOS technology refers to both the semiconductor process used to realize integrated digital and analog circuits and a logic family. CMOS technology is the most widely used logic family today and is mainly used for integrated circuits.

APS-C / DX

The DX format is a sensor format of Nikon digital SLR cameras.
The DX format was introduced in 1999 with the Nikon D1. At about 23.7 mm × 15.6 mm, it is smaller than the 35 mm format and also differs from the formats previously used for digital SLR cameras. It is also often referred to somewhat imprecisely as APS-C format.

The American Standards Association (ASA) and the Deutsches Institut für Normung (DIN) film speed standards have been combined into the ISO standards. The current International Standard for measuring the speed of color negative film is ISO 5800:1987 from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Related standards ISO 6:1993 and ISO 2240:2003 define scales for speeds of black-and-white negative film and color reversal film. This system defines both an arithmetic and a logarithmic scale, combining the previously separate ASA and DIN systems.
Commonly, the logarithmic speed is omitted; for example, "ISO 100" denotes ISO 100/21°.

Lens mount
i

Lens mount

A lens mount is an interface — mechanical and often also electrical — between a photographic camera body and a lens. It is confined to cameras where the body allows interchangeable lenses, most usually the single lens reflex type or any movie camera of 16 mm or higher gauge. Lens mounts are also used to connect optical components in instrumentation that may not involve a camera, such as the modular components used in optical laboratory prototyping which join via C-mount or T-mount elements.

Maximum aperture
i

Maximum aperture

Aperture is a (normally mechanical) device on cameras which can be used to change the light transmission through the optical system (lens). It is usually designed as a lamella screen (also known as an iris screen), in which circularly arranged lamella sheets shift into one another in such a way that the light transmission becomes narrower or wider and thus the incident light beam becomes smaller or larger. The iris is positioned in the beam path in such a way that it only acts as an aperture iris diaphragm and not as a field of view diaphragm.

Phase-based
i

Phase-based

The older passive method is phase comparison, a method that is more complex and also requires an additional sensor, but in principle requires less computing power and can also determine the focusing direction with the first measurement.
The method is derived from the purely optical split image indicator, an aid that was already used as an accessory in the purely mechanical cameras of the 1960s. In the center of the focusing screen, which was viewed through the viewfinder, two unmatted halves of the circle were attached so that two fields moved towards each other during manual focusing until they finally fitted exactly together during focusing. When the first phototransistors and microchips were available, it was only a matter of time before two sensor lines were constructed from them, which could judge the position of the two fields at vertical edges.

Memory Stick is a removable flash memory card format, launched by Sony in October 1998 [1], and is also used in general to describe the whole family of Memory Sticks. In addition to the original Memory Stick, this family includes the Memory Stick PRO, a revision that allows greater maximum storage capacity and faster file transfer speeds; Memory Stick Duo, a small-form-factor version of the Memory Stick (including the PRO Duo); and the even smaller Memory Stick Micro (M2). In December 2006 Sony added the Memory Stick PRO-HG, a high speed variant of the PRO, to be used for high definition still and video cameras.

Image file formats

Image file formats are standardized means of organizing and storing digital images. Image files are composed of either pixel or vector (geometric) data that are rasterized to pixels when displayed (with few exceptions) in a vector graphic display. The pixels that constitute an image are ordered as a grid (columns and rows); each pixel consists of numbers representing magnitudes of brightness and color.

JPEG

In computing, JPEG is a commonly used method of lossy compression for digital photography (image). The degree of compression can be adjusted, allowing a selectable tradeoff between storage size and image quality. JPEG typically achieves 10:1 compression with little perceptible loss in image quality.

JPEG compression is used in a number of image file formats. JPEG/Exif is the most common image format used by digital cameras and other photographic image capture devices; along with JPEG/JFIF, it is the most common format for storing and transmitting photographic images on the World Wide Web. These format variations are often not distinguished, and are simply called JPEG.

Battery-operated

A rechargeable battery or storage battery is a group of one or more electrochemical cells. They are known as secondary cells because their electrochemical reactions are electrically reversible. Rechargeable batteries come in many different shapes and sizes, ranging anything from a button cell to megawatt systems connected to stabilize an electrical distribution network. Several different combinations of chemicals are commonly used, including: lead-acid, nickel cadmium (NiCd), nickel metal hydride (NiMH), lithium ion (Li-ion), and lithium ion polymer (Li-ion polymer).

Rechargeable batteries have lower total cost of use and environmental impact than disposable batteries. Some rechargeable battery types are available in the same sizes as disposable types. Rechargeable batteries have higher initial cost, but can be recharged very cheaply and used many times.
