Description

The zoom lens SIGMA 50-100mm F1.8 DC HSM | Art in the medium telephoto range with large F1.8 aperture over the entire focal length range convinces with the image quality of a fixed focal length lens.

We have taken on the task of developing a zoom lens that offers the speed and resolution of a fixed focal length lens. In other words: a maximum of optical performance and expressiveness. We have achieved our first success with the SIGMA 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM | Art. Not only did this lens meet our high Art product line requirements, it was also the world's first APS-C zoom lens with a constant F1.8 aperture over the entire focal length range.

We continued to build on this concept and now present the SIGMA 50-100mm F1.8 DC HSM | Art, a mid-range telephoto zoom lens with a large diameter. This new lens offers more speed than an F2.8 telephoto lens and, with its zoom functionality, covers the focal lengths of three classic fixed focal lengths: 85mm F1.8, 105mm F1.8 and 135mm F1.8 (35mm equivalent focal lengths). The lens sets new standards for the image quality of zoom lenses and is ideal for portraits due to its fine bokeh.

Design that eliminates reflections and ghosting:
When designing the lens, we placed great emphasis from the outset on investigating the susceptibility to reflections and ghost images in order to achieve an optical design that is resistant even to strong backlighting.

Redesigned Hyper Sonic Motor :
The Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) has been further developed to provide excellent image quality and an open aperture of F1.8. We optimized the layout and shape of the individual components so that the HSM is now 30% smaller. The slimmer format of the HSM is an important prerequisite for the development of a zoom lens that combines a speed of F1.8 with high image quality.

Lens mount

A lens mount is an interface — mechanical and often also electrical — between a photographic camera body and a lens. It is confined to cameras where the body allows interchangeable lenses, most usually the single lens reflex type or any movie camera of 16 mm or higher gauge. Lens mounts are also used to connect optical components in instrumentation that may not involve a camera, such as the modular components used in optical laboratory prototyping which join via C-mount or T-mount elements.

Telephoto lens

In photography and cinematography, a telephoto lens is a specific type of a long-focus lens in which the physical length of the lens is shorter than the focal length. This is achieved by incorporating a special lens group known as a telephoto group that extends the light path to create a long-focus lens in a much shorter overall design. The angle of view and other effects of long-focus lenses are the same for telephoto lenses of the same specified focal length. Long-focal-length lenses are often informally referred to as telephoto lenses although this is technically incorrect: a telephoto lens specifically incorporates the telephoto group.

An optical zoom serves to enlarge the subject in the image section without having to change its position. Optical zooms are superior to digital zooms because zooming does not take place at the expense of image resolution.
