print material

3D printing filament is the thermoplastic feedstock for fused deposition modeling 3D printers. There are many types of filament available with different properties, requiring different temperatures to print.

Nylon
i

Nylon

Nylon is a generic designation for a family of synthetic polymers known generically as polyamides, first produced on February 28, 1935, by Wallace Carothers at DuPont's research facility at the DuPont Experimental Station. Nylon is one of the most commonly used polymers.

,
ABS
i

ABS

ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) is relatively hard and stiff and has a high toughness. It is characterised by high resistance to temperature changes and low water absorption. Compared to the PLA, the ABS filament is more stable and has a higher heat tolerance. However, ABS is more prone to warping (bulging and warping of a component). LEGO bricks are made of ABS.

,
PP
,
PLA
i

PLA

Unlike ABS, PLA is not prone to warping and is therefore ideal for beginners. PLA also has a high surface hardness, stiffness and tensile strength. In addition, the UV resistance is very good and offers low flammability. A disadvantage compared to ABS filaments is the lack of impact strength of the polyester.

,
PVA
i

PVA

Like HiPS filaments, PVA (polyvinyl alcohol) serves as a support material for dual extruder printers. The most important advantage over HiPS is that PVA can be printed with more than just ABS.

,
PET-G
i

PET-G

PET-G (polyethylene terephthalate with glycol) is a PET material modified with glycol. Its main advantages over PET are its durability, impact resistance and that it does not become brittle and fragile when heated regularly. PET-G is also resistant to chemicals, flame-retardant and certified as a food-safe polymer.

,
PERSONAL COMPUTER
i

PERSONAL COMPUTER

PC (polycarbonate) is one of the strongest, most durable and most resistant materials and is used in commercial areas for bulletproof glass, diving masks and screens.

,
HIPS
i

HIPS

HiPS (High-Impact Polystyrene) is a highly impact resistant polystyrene and has an elasticity like rubber. It is usually used as a support material in combination with ABS and a dual extruder 3D printer as it can be dissolved in lime.
